1. Is there a policy for the brand to minimize, reduce or compensate carbon emissions? Marimekko has various policy measures to reduce carbon emission especially in the areas of its operations in relation to energy, water consumption and waste. Source
2. Has the brand (company) disclosed the annual absolute carbon footprint of its 'own operations' (Scope 1 & 2) and has the brand already reduced or compensated 10% of these emissions in the last 5 years? Marimekko has published some key figures on its environmental responsibility indicators for power consumption, heating energy consumption, natural gas consumption and water consumption since 2008. However, no detailed carbon footprint reporting is available yet to show whether or not a CO2 reduction of 10% has been achieved yet. Source
3. Has the brand (company) set a target to reduce its absolute ‘own operations’ carbon emissions by at least 20% within the next 5 years? In 2010, an appraisal of how environmental impacts could be mitigated was made and targets for these issues were set for the next few years. However, no detailed report was available on its website. 1. Does the brand (company) use environmentally 'preferred' raw materials? Marimekko's collection incorporates certified organic cotton. The proportion of certified and ordinary cotton used in the collections were examined in 2010. A plan was drawn up to expand the proportion of products made of organic materials (see page 4 of Sustainability Report). However, no details are found on its website. Source
