Who we are

RANK A BRAND: CONSUMERS FOR SUSTAINABILITY

Rank a Brand is an international community of responsible consumers who want to buy sustainable and fair products or services. Rank a Brand exist to enable consumers to make responsible shopping choices and to put pressure on brands to become more sustainable, socially responsible and transparent.

Rank a Brand was founded in 2009 by Niels Oskam. Under his leadership Rank a Brand has become one of Europe’s largest brand-comparison sites on sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

If you want to join our community of responsible consumers, support our work and have a say in the sectors and brands we rank and which criteria we apply, you can become Friend of Rank a Brand for €25 per year, or more if you can afford.

Rankers

Rank a Brand would not exist without the active participation of a large group of volunteers. These rankers research the sustainability and social responsibility of sectors and brands. 

The rankers are the heart of Rank a Brand. This group makes sure all of the brands we have ranked have up-to-date scores on our website. On a voluntary basis, they search through brand websites, CSR reports and other public sources to find the answers to our questions.

Other volunteers

Rank a Brand also has a group of volunteers who do other roles, for example in communication, fundraising, website and IT.

Management

The management of Rank a Brand is with Radboud van Delft (managing director) and Mario Dziamski (head of research). Ype van Woersem is coordinator research and communication).

Board

Final responsibility for Rank a Brand lies with the board, who supervises and supports the management. The board consists of Marleen Janssen Groesbeek (chair of the board and professor sustainable finance and accounting at Avans Hogeschool), Jiska Klein (treasurer of the board and consultant at KPMG Sustainability, and Tim Steinweg (consultant at Aidenvironment).

Advisory Council

In order to keep us always up to date with the latest trends in sustainability, research, CSR and consumer demands, Rank a Brand has an advisory council, consisting of: Gerhard Schuil (manager research, training & advice at SOMO), Maurits Groen, (co-founder of WakaWaka), Walter Etty (consultant at Andersson Elffers Felix),  Marijn Wiersma (Sr Fiancial Inclusion Officer at FMO) and Niels Oskam (founder of Rank a Brand).

Registration

Rank a Brand is an NGO (non-governmental organization), registred in the Netherlands as a 'stichting' (foundation) with 'ANBI' status of the Dutch tax authorities, and as a 'Verein' (association) in Germany.
